Just came back from reunion dinner. Feel quite stuffed. Ahh...I am putting on weight! This has to be good. We went to My Humble House at Esplanade...which is probably the most ironic name ever since its hardly what you would call humble. For some strange reason the place is characterized by these ridiculously huge, high-backed chairs. If its an attempt to look homey - it failed! Yea but its kinda cool cause its looks like one of those scenes straight out of those gothic, dracula movies. With the long, rectangular dining tables and huge, imposing looking chairs. Whee.
But then even that illusion was sort of ruined because the chairs were so freaking huge that whenever they wanted to serve a new dish, the waiters had to (with great difficulty) poke their heads in between the chairs and ask us to shift apart so they could reach the table and plonk the dish on it.
Other than the issue with the enormous chairs it was pretty cool! They had these 50 cm long chopsticks at the table! It was meant for the yusheng dish but Ian liked the chopsticks so much that he smuggled them out by sticking them up his pants legs. They also had these cute plastic chinese figurine thingys which doubled up as drink glasses (there was a hole at the back of their heads to insert the straw). They were also souveniers and came in sets of 3, in the form of a cheena boy with a pigtail...his female counterpart and this cheesy looking fortune god. And some of my relatives promptly got into quite a pointless argument with the waiter over them; because they didn't give us the fortune god one. Sigh.
Oh. And I ended up sitting next to this aunt whom everyone wants to avoid because apparently she has BO. Well I was kinda caught up in my food (which was really good) to actually notice but my brother and mum kept laughing at my so called misfortune throughout dinner. And my brother started msging me from across the table advising me to inhale the steam from my green tea. Argh. These weird people in my family. @_@
Exhale
