So much for coming out of hiatus.
School's started and I have a bad feeling that thing's are going to be crazy again, especially once tutorials kick in. USP's still fun. USP people are still great. FASS is big and faceless, but then again what's new.
And PGP still resembles a Hong Kong slum. I got an unexpected surprise while cleaning out my new dorm room - soiled women's underwear in the cupboard. SERIOUSLY PEOPLE. What are we paying for here?! That and toilet cubicle doors which miraculously lock themselves from the inside.
The module selection this sem wasn't very exciting but I did get the 2 history modules I wanted - Sport and History and Minorities in SEA :) Looking forward to those. I AM DONE WITH POLITICAL SCIENCE 101 AND THAT TERRIBLE EXCUSE OF A PS TUTOR. Not to pinpoint specific individuals but suffice to say that someone whose name starts with R and ends with Appa won't be missed much.
On the bright side, have again renewed attempts to become more literary during the holidays. Glad to say that I have made marginal progress. Re-read The Great Gatsby. Love. Re-read Lolita for school. First part Love, second part Yawn. Unbearable lightness of being was ok but not impressed. Reading Dance, dance, dance by Haruki Murakami - LOVE LOVE LOVE. The guy write about the Sheepman (and literally, he is) and alternate realities/black holes in some hotel but it still manages to make sense and is a really engaging read.
Read Interpreter of Maladies for school. I'm definitely no literary aficionado and I may not be qualified to comment, but I was supremely not impressed. I don't know why it got a Pulitzer. The endings for most of the stories (I felt) were weak ('Interpreter of Maladies'), unsatisfying ('Mr Pirzada' - it really made me go huh? Right.) and some even predictable ('Sexy'). Didn't like it. Maybe I missed something while reading it but oh well. Perhaps subsequent Lit lectures will enlighten me but until then I say don't buy it, get it from the library.
This is a really weird post. I don't really know what the point is but haha. Just a little update.
And now I shall withdraw back into the material world. So long. More next time.
Exhale
